The Satyananda Yoga Centre – Cape Town

The Satyananda Yoga centre was opened in April 2004 in Sea Point, Cape Town. This is a small centre dedicated to yoga taught in the Satyananda tradition and all classes focus on awareness and simplicity. Classes are held every week evening from 6-7:30pm. The classes focus on slow movement in asana, yoga nidra (guided relaxation), meditation, and pranayama. Different courses such as the ‘Introduction to Meditation’ course are held throughout the year. We also enjoy the growing frequency of visits from senior Satyananda Yoga teachers from all over the world who come to hold courses and seminars and share with us their deeper experience of yoga. Please visit for more information of Swami Pragyamurti’s upcoming yoga retreat in February.

Shanti Cape Town – Cape Town

Shanti Cape Town was born in 2006 in my living room. Classes grew quickly and I taught all over Cape Town until my husband found our current studio space. It was a building site but with its beautiful mountain views, he saw the potential. I was nervous to take on such a big space with big running costs but I trusted all will be well.

I persevered in keeping Shanti authentic by only teaching Ashtanga and especially by teaching Mysore every morning like my guru Pattabhi Jois intended. During 2009 student numbers doubled as we celebrated our second birthday in the space. I thank the Universe to be able to facilitate such an amazing Ashtanga movement in Cape Town.
