Bikram Yoga Fourways – Johannesburg.

Bikram Yoga Fourways offers a beginners form of yoga consisting of a demanding 26 posture (asana) series with 2 breathing, (pranayama), exercises done in a room heated to 40°C for 90 minutes. The heat allows for safe and deep stretching while simultaneously flushing and detoxifying every single system of the body, from bones to skin, inside out.

We are offering an opening package of a “First Timer Special” to all new students at Bikram Yoga Fourways. It costs R120 for 10 consecutive days of yoga including a mat rental. The idea is to do as many classes as possible in the 10 days because you will go through a detox and as a result will need a few classes to accustom your body to the heated room and to all the amazing benefits.

Karma Shala Yoga Studio – 117 Hatfield Street, Gardens, Cape Town.

Jim Harrington and Tamsin Sheehy co-founded the studio in October of 2007. At the time they both needed a space to teach from and had no expectations of what the studio would grow into. Today the studio is a busy vibrant community based studio with 9 teachers, a full timetable including pre-natal yoga, kids yoga and a fantastic chanting and meditation class on Sundays.

The studio is light and airy with wooden floors and conveniently located in Gardens with ample parking available on the street and in the Jewish museum’s parking field.
Varied classes accommodate students of all levels and classes are kept to a maximum of 14 people to allow for personalized instruction. All the teachers are experienced yogis and classes are very hands on with each student encouraged to work at their own pace.

Regular Synergy courses are run by Jim. These valuable courses attract teachers and practitioners from all yoga forms from Kundalini to Astanga. Synergy Yoga offers a fresh approach to body awareness and its principles help in preventing injury in whatever form of yoga one practices.

In March and April the studio will be offering Absolute Beginners courses. The month of May brings the start to both Yoga philosophy classes (Aldi Groenewald) and new Yoga Teachers Training course. The TTC programmes headed by Jim offer a month intensive and a 5 month part time course.

In addition to all of that Karma Shala is hosting Jenny Bovin this month who is doing a Thai massage course. For those in need of just receiving a massage, the complex offers excellent therapists whose details can be found in the treatment room area.

For refreshments throughout the day the new “Cookshop” has just opened below the studio. A delicious selection of live juices, bakes, coffees (organic), sandwiches and a daily buffet are on offer. Plus a regular Tuesday organic veggie and egg market.
