Giving back to the Mother of Love – Swami Parvathiananda.

December 6, 2010

There are a number of yoga teachers, yoga practitioners and members of the community who have had the fortunate privilege and blessing of being taught by the Mothers of Ananda Kutir Ashram.

Mother Yogeshwari and Swami Parvathiananda are the Mothers of Ananda Kutir Ashram, a non profit organization. For me they represent so much and contributed profoundly to my yoga practice and my way of teaching. They founded Ananda Kutir in 1982 and have continued the teaching of their guru Swami Sivananda and Swami Venkatesananda by serving and giving tirelessly with great love.

From clinics in Nyanga, to helping people with asthma, emphysema, being involved with TB and HIV/Aids patients, providing sandwiches weekly to school children without the assistance of government but with gratitude to volunteers and private donations, the Mothers are an inspiration to admire. They initiated the Yoga Teacher Training programme, the Yoga Therapy Teacher Course and the Ayurveda Primary Health Care Advisory Course, both of which are registered with the Allied Health Professions Council of SA. Any one who has the good fortune of being a part of the ashram in any way is truly blessed to experience the love and guidance from these two incredible souls of light.

It is with joy and admiration that I write about Mother Yogeshwari and Swami Parvathiananda in celebrating the beautiful path they have chosen to share with us. However, it is also with sadness that I write this article because Swami Parvathi, as we fondly call her, is in serious need of a heart valve surgical procedure. She has a condition known as Aortic Stenosis due to a valve dysfunction.

Her cardiologist has advised her that she is in urgent need of an Aortic Valve Replacement, as her condition will deteriorate rapidly and without surgery, he has given her not much more than a year to live with a gradually deteriorating quality of life.

The quotation for this procedure is a minimum of R260 000. The Medical Fund has only about R87 000. As you know Swamiji is a nun and therefore has no income of her own so we urgently need your help to fund the surgery and after care! Swami Parvathi has dedicated her life to serving the people and all of us, and now we have the opportunity to give back to her in her time of need.

Christmas is a time of celebration, sharing and giving. I urge you; we urge you, please as a member of the yoga community, please spend your money wisely this festive season and give to a worthwhile cause.

We are not ready to let her go, we still need Swami Parvathi to continue the marvellous work she has done, so many people need her. Please open your heart this Christmas to save the one of Swamiji.

We know you want to help and all amounts will be gratefully received.

Love,  Blessings and Sincere Gratitude,

Juanita.
