“Yoga is showing where to look for the soul – that is all. Man is taking a human body – this is a very rare opportunity. Don’t waste it. We are given a hundred years to live; one day you have the possibility to see god. If you think in this way, it is giving you good body, good nature, and health. – Sri K. Pattabhi Jois, 2001 (quote taken from the book ‘Guruji – a portrait of Sri K. Pattabhi Jois – through the eyes of his students’ – I highly recommend you read it!)

Ekam Yoga

Ekam means ‘one’ in Sanskrit. It is also the number associated with the first inhale and posture of the Ashtanga Vinyasa yoga practice. For Ekam Yoga, it represents the individual practitioner and the community in which they practice.

Ekam Yoga seeks to be more than a place to take an Ashtanga class, but an environment to develop and deepen a student’s self-practice. Thus, our schedule reflects the daily practice time required to acclimatize the body and mind to self-practice. In addition, our instructors are dedicated to their own self-practice, and to encouraging others to find their own time and space, on and off the mat.

Join us in the Ekam community and explore the many benefits of self-practice.

Please note the studio will be closed from 17 December – 10 January for a updates and repairs, though we will be open from 3 January for morning self-practice sessions. To ease practice withdrawal symptoms we’re offering a Holiday Special of R800 for Two Months Unlimited Practice covering the months of December and January. Remember monthly fees are due 5 December!

Practicing 30 consecutive days, you will see and feel the difference.

All practices on our schedule will count towards the 30 Days. We encourage students to try different classes beyond there normal practice, immerse yourself in meditations as well as join the Philosophy discussion groups. Apart from making dramatic changes to the physical body the challenge will have profound effects on your practice as well as your daily life. Practicing consistently opens up paths of discovery which otherwise remain elusive, as well as encouraging a more holistic approach to your practice – seeing it as more than just a physical process.

There is a R30 registration fee which will be donated to the Earthchild Project .
