Interviews with Yoga Teachers

April 4, 2011
Jenna Wilmot is originally from Germany but has lived in South Africa for the past 7 years. When she came to SA for the first time in 2004 she enrolled in various volunteer projects. After she returned home she decided to study at Mahindra, the European academy of Ayurveda. This sister vedic science of Yoga became her passion and she is now living and teaching both in Hoedspruit, Limpopo.

Her Yoga classes are influenced by the holistic approach of Ayurveda. She doesn’t always stick to what she had prepared but rather lets the lessons flow, improvising the sequences or postures according to how the participants respond. She likes to adapt the various asanas to each and everyone’s specific needs. For her, Yoga and Ayurveda go hand in hand to life a more balanced, happy and healthy life!

Paige Dorkin
Paige Dorkin discovered yoga as a university student at the Ananda Kutir ashram in Rondebosch East. But it was only some years later, in 2006, that she began practising regularly. Inspired by the changes this practice brought to her daily life she completed her 240 hour yoga teacher training with Jim Harrington in 2010. She teaches Ashtanga, a physically challenging form of yoga, which can nonetheless be adapted to suit all shapes, sizes and fitness levels if approached with gentleness and patience.

Sara De Beer

Sara’s  interest in yoga began eight years ago during her first class with her mentor, Andrea Sternberg in Cape Town. Travels to India deepened her understanding of the practise , and upon becoming pregnant in 2008, she shifted focus from beginning a career teaching High School History to immersing herself  in yoga practise.
The benefits of yoga during pregnancy and after birth were profound, from the natural birth process, recovery from labour and bonding with her daughter, all through yoga. Her passion lies in sharing these benefits with new moms and moms to be, and increasing moms’ and babies’ happiness through yoga practice. She also loves challenging, creative Vinyasa classes, which is open to everyone.
She has been teaching private and small group classes since 2009, drawing on knowledge of Iyengar, Ashtanga and Kundalini yoga in a creative Vinyasa flow. In 2010 she completed a Yoga Alliance compliant Teacher Training with Jim Harrington in Cape Town.
