Yoga Nidra – Awakening

April 4, 2011

Awakening

Assume a comfortable relaxation position ensuring there is a clean and quiet space around you. Allow a few moments to asses how the body feels, being aware of any or all sensations that arise in the body. Quietly observe these sensations, if any, and mindfully release any feeling of tension, physical discomfort and / or stress through the exhalation, which is the releasing and relaxing breath.

As you consciously witness the breath, allow the natural rhythm of the breath to revitalize  and heal on the inhalation and soothe every aspect of your physical and energetic being on the exhalation. As you find yourself positively withdrawing inwards, become conscious of a positive resolve or affirmation – a Sankalpa – that you want for yourself. Mindfully repeat this Sankalpa three times with conviction, respect and love. The positive energetic force of the Sankalpa and the silent observation of the breath will guide you towards connecting to that place of stillness and peace within. As the renowned Jung stated, “ Who looks outside, dreams. Who looks inside, awakens.”

Observe, connect, feel, release and surrender to this peaceful state, savour it for as long as need be. Thereafter repeat the same Sankalpa, the same positive Mantra, three times knowing its message WILL transcend into reality. Maintaining the sense of connection to that sacred place, bring your awareness back to the body, gently ease yourself out of relaxation revitalizing the senses and the body with soft movements and deeper inhalations.

Observe a few quality moments of Mauna – Silence – before setting out and living a life of greatness!

Om Shanti
