Astrology: The fortified moon

April 2, 2012

Getting the Moon in the right mood is one of the basics of electional astrology. The old writers on the topic urge their readers always to “fortify the Moon” to the greatest extent possible. By this they mean that a waxing Moon is preferred to a waning one when starting those activities that we want to increase and endure.

There are other ways in which the Moon is fortified. One of these is to select times when the Moon is moving through signs in which she is strong, such as Cancer (the sign she rules) and certain water and earth signs (such as Taurus).

For a really important event, the astrologer would also try to make sure the Moon and Sun are in a roughly 60-degree or 120-degree relationship to each other.

As a way of putting more power in your hands, dear readers, I’ve drawn up a list of 2012’s days when the Moon is at her best. I hope you can use them for initiating whatever takes your fancy.

For fine-tuning your elections, you can cross reference these strong Moon days with the Mercury retrograde periods I have already sent (to avoid the retrograde times). If you want a day when both Venus and the Moon are strong – for creative, nurturing, expressive and artistic activities – then cross reference with Venus’s strong and weak times from astro-bulletin 2.

To help your endeavours and to prevent overload, I have created an online calendar that contains all the dates from all the bulletins in one place for very easy reference. No signing on, no passwords. Just click here.

The Moon’s best days in 2012:

  • April 2 from 7am to 10pm
  • April 4 from 4pm to April 5 at 5pm
  • April 22 from 7am to April 23 at 7pm

  • May 2 from 8pm to May 3 at 10pm
  • May 23 from 3pm to May 28 at 2pm
  • May 30 from 7am to 10pm
  • June 21 from 7am to June 25 at 5pm

With each bulletin, I’ll keep adding layers of information about what each planet signifies and when it is strong, so you can work with dates yourself.

Here’s to innovations to come
