30 Day Yoga Challenge… Day One

Melissa and Pippa

Today being August 1st means that the 2012 30 Day Yoga Challenge has started! Following last years incredibly successful Yogaway Home from Home 30 Day Yoga Challenge, this year we have 50 yogis signed up and raring to go, having committed to practice yoga for 30 days during August whilst raising funds for the Child Protection Organisation, Home from Home (

The initiative was started last year by Melissa Brake, yoga teacher and owner of YogaWay Yoga and Pilates Studio in Newlands ( , and Pippa Shaper, co-founder of Home from Home, and occasional yogi. Last year, 30 people participated at YogaWay – this year we have been joined by Sunset Beach Yoga Studio ( as well as other yogis around the country, and indeed the world, intent on committing to their practice for a month, whilst practicing Seva, and taking yoga off the mat and into the community.

In this blog, Pippa will be journaling on what its like for a ‘normal person’ ie, not someone who has a regular yoga practice, to practice every day, and Melissa will add more from the yoga side about the 30 Day Challenge and the effects.

Lovely ladies, you have made it all so easy for us aspiring yogis and do-gooders that we are already feeling positive effects after only two days! Having raised awareness amongst our friends about the wonderful work Home from Home undertakes, and having shared the amazing atmosphere of Melissa’s Yogaway studio after day 2 it feels everyone is a winner! Best of luck xx
