Yoga in Knysna

April 4, 2011
Feedback from Gurmukh Kaur Khalsa’s visit to South Afirca and Knysna in particular.

Namaste`

Gurmukh and Gurushabd enjoyed their first visit to Knysna so much that we are already planning an expanded visit for 2012! Thanks to all of you who brought an open mind and an open heart to these joyful Kundalini practices. Many of you have reported that you experienced powerful and positive effects both during and long after the practices.

Gurmukh’s lively yoga class at Sinethemba Youth Centre on March was well received and the youth and management at Sinethemba are enthusiastic about an ongoing yoga program. 150 kids from Sinethemba, Percy Mdala and Oakhill Schools danced, sang, clapped and helped each other through some of the more challenging aspects of the kriya being taught by Gurmukh.

A huge thank you for your support and donations. During the course of Gurmukh’s visit you raised over R2000 which will help to maintain the running of the Sinethemba centre. As far as the yoga program is concerned we are starting with the basics and need mats for the kids so donations of your used yoga mats are welcome. You can drop them off at Lotus Studio and we will clean and deliver them for you.

Sinethemba was founded to help give street kids a chance to rehabilitate and re-enter school and healthy family or foster care. Part of the program emphasizes life skills and skills that could lead to a productive working life.  If you have and could teach skills such as cooking, sewing, art or carpentry and would be willing to donate any time at all, please contact Sinethemba directly www.sinethemba.net or you could drop Charlotte a line at cpregno@cyberperk.co.za.

You will also be pleased to know that Gurmukh and Gurushabd have donated the entire benefit from their Knysna visit to Rosie’s Soup Kitchen, a worthy project they support on an ongoing basis in Cape Town. Rosie is now equipped to feed 400 children before they go to school and when they come home for about 6 months thanks to you and the students of Gururamdas in Cape Town. Gratitude to Gurmukh and Gurushabd for this kindness.

Another fruit borne of this visit is that we are starting up a monthly Full Moon Sadhana at Lotus Studio. Sadhana is a powerful way to awaken our spirit and is practised in the ambrosial hours before sunrise. Our first gathering will be from 5-7am on 18th April For more information contact Lotus Studio. yoga@lotusstudio.co.za.
